Chinese Cloud Peers: Measuring Social and Cognitive Impact of Virtual Partnerships
Fellow: LILIA CAI-HURTEAU
By focusing on an approach to foreign language acquisition that emphasizes cross-cultural understanding, collaboration, and communication, this project will enable Andover students to interact with students in China and foster genuine, cross-cultural relationships without leaving campus. Working in an online platform, students will engage in intergroup assignments that challenge them to develop meaningful dialogue with peers on opposite sides of the world. Lilia Cai-Hurteau will use measurement tools to assess social and cognitive impact—empathy development, relationship building, and growth in cultural and linguistic competencies—and share her findings with other language teachers, Learning in the World program leaders, and the Tang Institute team. Her goal is to stimulate discussions about and take additional steps towards effectively measuring outcomes related to global engagement.
