The restructuring of the biology survey course aims to put the focus on skill development: academic skills, experimental research skills, and cultural competency. The course content and expectations are constantly driven by the Phillips Academy mission statement to incorporate topics of identity and background into the biology curriculum. The new curriculum places the student at the center of their own learning, and it empowers teachers to create classroom spaces where students learn through collaboration, originality, and intrinsic motivation.
